The challenge

The Riverside Bar & Kitchen is a 2 AA Rosette modern British restaurant and bar on the banks of the River Darwen in Lower Darwen, Blackburn. The food and the room are the finished article. The website was not. It needed to match the quality on the plate and carry the venue's new brand, while still doing the everyday jobs a restaurant site has to do: show the menus, tell the story, and get a table booked without friction.

The brief was simple to say and harder to do. Make it feel like The Riverside, warm, confident and unmistakably theirs, and make it effortless to keep current, so a change to a dish or a price never means a redesign.

What we built

We designed and built The Riverside a brand-new Laravel website, built around their new brand: warm, moody photography, wide tracked capitals, the RS monogram and a deep, elegant palette lifted with a single copper accent. Fast, mobile-first and accessible, it puts the room and the food front and centre.

  • A hero that sells the room. The homepage opens on the riverside dining room and the 2 AA Rosette accolade, with a clear path to the menus and to booking a table.
  • Every menu, always current. The full a la carte, the summer Seasonal Set Menu and weekend Brunch and Breakfast, with sticky category tabs and a clear dietary key. The menus are managed in a database, so an update to a dish or a price is a quick edit rather than a developer job.
  • Book a table in a tap. A prominent Book a Table flow that connects straight to the venue's reservation system, so the website guides diners to book without ever holding two records for one table.
  • The story, told properly. The history from The Swan, through Uncle Jacks, to The Riverside today, and the Rosette-level dining it is now known for.
  • What is on, and who is in. Dedicated Events and Entertainment pages, plus private dining and a careers page, so the site speaks for every side of the business.
  • A reason to come back between visits. A recipes section that keeps regulars engaged and gives search engines fresh, relevant content to index.
  • Built to be found. Clean, structured markup, a proper sitemap and local signals, so diners searching for riverside dining around Blackburn and Darwen land on The Riverside.

A warm, brand-led website that looks as good as the food, keeps every menu current at the click of a button and turns a search for local dining into a booked table.

The result

The Riverside now has a website that finally matches the room: elegant, quick and easy to keep up to date. The menus stay accurate because the team can edit them in minutes, the story and the brand come through on every page, and booking a table is never more than a tap away. A restaurant that had outgrown its old site now has a shop window worthy of two AA Rosettes.
