UK Construction Products

A Blackburn manufacturer of concrete admixtures and additives, moved off a WordPress shop onto a Laravel technical catalogue. Every product has its own specification page, a searchable datasheet generated from the same source, and answers written for the engineers and batching plants who buy it.

The challenge: a technical product range sold through a generic shop

UK Construction Products Ltd (UKCP) formulates, manufactures and distributes liquid and powder admixtures and additives for readymix and precast concrete, mortars and screeds, from Blackburn, backed by over 30 years' technical experience. Varsuite designed and built UKCP a new website on Laravel that works as a technical catalogue rather than a shop front.

The old site was a WordPress shop. Its products sat under generic shop and category pages, a layout built for putting things in a basket, when UKCP's customers are batching plants, precasters and mortar manufacturers who need to check a specification before anything is ordered. The range had also moved on: four products on the old site were sold under brand names that were not UKCP's own.

So the brief was to put the technical data first, make every datasheet easy to find, lead with readymix and precast concrete, and make sure the addresses the old site had built up still reached the right product.

What we built: a technical catalogue for concrete admixtures

  • A specification page for every product. Seven products across liquid and powder solutions, from the LSA Max rapid drying screed admixture to the FASTSET repair compounds. Each page carries its applications, benefits, specification table, packaging, shelf life and related products, laid out so an engineer can answer "will this work on my job" without phoning.
  • Datasheets generated from the product itself. Every technical datasheet PDF is produced from the same file as the product page, so the datasheet and the website cannot disagree. Change a figure once and both update together.
  • Search built for how buyers look. A "Find Technical Data Fast" search on the homepage takes a product name or an application, alongside quick routes into liquid solutions, powder solutions, bespoke formulation and technical support.
  • Answers written to be quoted. 103 questions and answers across the product, collection and news pages, from "how soon can you walk on a screed made with LSA Max" to what an air entraining agent actually does, all published as structured data. Nine technical articles cover screed drying times, underfloor heating, water retention in dry mortars and rapid concrete repair. That is the SEO and AIO automation layer: it gives search engines and AI assistants UKCP's own verified figures to quote.
  • Enquiry and sample request forms that keep the lead. Both forms save the enquiry before any email is sent, so a mail failure delays a notification rather than losing a customer, and a sample request can arrive with the product already chosen. A hidden honeypot and rate limiting keep the spam out without making customers solve puzzles.
  • Content that lives in the code. Products, collections and articles are version-controlled files, so there is no plugin to update and no admin login to secure. New products are picked up automatically by the catalogue, search, sitemap and the plain text summary written for AI assistants.

Only the claims UKCP can stand behind

The first design carried accreditations from a mockup, and the old site sold products under brand names that were not UKCP's own. Before launch every one was checked with UKCP: accreditations the company does not hold were removed and the page became Quality and Standards, two products were withdrawn and two renamed as LSA Max and PSA, and claims that only applied to the withdrawn products were removed rather than quietly moved onto the renamed ones. Technical figures on the site are the ones UKCP has verified, and nothing else.

Rebuilding without losing the old addresses

The old WordPress shop, category and product addresses all return permanent redirects to their new pages, including the two renamed products, which forward to their new names. Every address the old site published with a trailing slash is redirected to the same page without one, so existing links and search positions carry over.

A technical catalogue that puts the specification first, generates its own datasheets, and only publishes figures the manufacturer has verified.

The result: a technical website ready to launch

UK Construction Products now has a website shaped around how its customers buy, which is by checking the technical data first. Seven products have full specification pages and matching datasheets, nine technical articles answer the questions that come up on site, and 205 automated tests check the pages, forms, redirects, search and datasheets on every change.

The site is built and tested and has not gone live yet, so there are no traffic or enquiry figures to report and we will not invent any.

Questions

Common questions about the UK Construction Products build

Varsuite designed and built a new Laravel website for UK Construction Products Ltd, a Blackburn manufacturer of concrete admixtures and additives. It is a technical catalogue with a specification page and generated datasheet for each of its seven products, product search, nine technical articles, and enquiry and sample request forms.

Each UKCP datasheet PDF is generated from the same content file as its product page, so the datasheet and the website always show the same technical data. Changing a figure once updates both.

Yes. The old shop, category and product addresses return permanent redirects to their new pages, including the two renamed products, and any address requested with a trailing slash is redirected to the same page without one.
